POWER PLATFORM AT SCALE

Automation — Governing the Platform With the Platform

The Centre of Enablement Starter Kit shifts governance from a manual effort to a platform capability. Why governance automation is the only model that keeps pace with platform growth.

“The most scalable Centre of Enablement is the one that teaches the platform to govern itself.”

A governance programme that requires manual effort to run will not keep pace with a platform that does not. At fifty makers, manual oversight is possible. At five hundred, it is not. At scale, governance needs to run on the platform — not alongside it.

What Automation Means Here

In the context of SCALE-OPS, Automation refers to the automation of governance and operations — using the platform’s own capabilities to monitor, manage, and maintain itself. Not the automations makers build for business processes. The automations the governance team builds to govern the estate.

What Power Platform Provides

The Centre of Enablement Starter Kit is a free, open-source collection of apps, flows, and dashboards that provides the foundation for platform automation. Inventory management runs continuously — every environment, app, flow, connector, and maker synced automatically into Dataverse. Compliance flows reach out to makers automatically, requesting ownership confirmation and escalating non-responses. Governance dashboards in Power BI surface the estate’s health in real time without manual report preparation.

Microsoft is progressively bringing these capabilities into Power Platform Admin Center natively, reducing the operational overhead further over time.

The Enterprise Gap

The Centre of Enablement Starter Kit is installed. The dashboards are live. The inventory runs. The opportunity is in connecting what the automation surfaces to a governance team with the mandate and cadence to act on it. Automation reduces the cost of governance. The operating model ensures the right action follows.

One Action

Identify the three most important signals the governance automation currently surfaces — ownership gaps, Data Loss Prevention violations, licence anomalies. Assign a named owner to each signal type. Define what action each signal triggers and on what cadence. The platform is watching. The governance team decides what to do with what it sees.
