What Containment Means
Every Power Platform tenant has a Default Environment. Every licensed user has access to it. Without active management, it becomes the destination for everything the governance model has not yet addressed.
Default Environment Routing redirects new makers from the shared default space to personal developer environments — isolated, disposable workspaces that do not affect shared infrastructure. This single configuration change addresses the most persistent containment risk.
What Power Platform Provides
Environment Groups allow consistent policy application across logically grouped environments. Managed Environments apply governance architecturally — sharing limits, Solution Checker enforcement, and backup retention — so governance intent becomes structural rather than advisory.
Data Loss Prevention policies define which connectors can interact and which data boundaries apply, with custom blocked messages that guide makers toward the approved path rather than simply stopping them.
The Enterprise Gap
The most common containment gap is not a missing Data Loss Prevention policy — it is a policy that was configured at launch and never revisited as the connector library grew and business requirements evolved. Containment is an ongoing operational discipline, not a one-time configuration exercise.
